Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Recipients

Maumelle, AR -  For the first time the Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce was able to award two (2) $500.00 scholarships to graduating seniors.  These scholarships were available to ANY Maumelle resident that will graduating high school in 2016.  This scholarship was established by Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce Educational Committee.   This committee worked closely with Maumelle Schools to provide a program where students and business leaders can work towards the future.  The scholarship criteria is based on the applicant's scholastic achievement, leadership in school activities, demonstrated superior service to the community, and reputation for moral character.  In addition  Students must also have a minimum 2.5 cumulative high school GPA.  complete a application questionnaire and submit a 300-500 word typed essay.  The recipients of the 2016 Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship are Alec Bishop and Caroline Sweet

 Alec Bishop a Senior at Maumelle High School, whose honors include Hornets Awards, the National Honor Society and Maumelle High School Honor Roll.  He excelled in leadership at his school by being the captain of the Maumelle High School Baseball Team, Secretary for the Partners Club and co-Leader of a life group at New Life Church.  His other activities include Baseball, Basketball, Golf, the Science Club, the Christian Student Union.  In addition, he volunteers with Junior Olympics, Miracle League, Habitat for Humanity and The Rice Depot.  In the fall he plans to Attend Arkansas State University

 Caroline Sweet a Senior at Maumelle High School, whose honors include Real Proud Hornet Academic excellence Award and is currently ranked Number 2 in her class.  She also is the 2014 State Champion in the 4 x800, 2014 Cheer state runner up, 2014 State runner up in the 3200, All Conference Track 9-12, All state Track 10th, All Conference Cross Country 10-12, All state Cross Country 11-12, and All Region Choir in the 9th grade.  Caroline stood out in leadership by serving as the Student Council 12 Grade Representative, Christian Student Union 12 Grade Representative, Captain of the MHS Girls Cross Country Team, Captain of the MHS Girls Track Team, and Girls State Delegate.  Her other activities include singing and playing keyboard in her church band, and volunteering with Arkansas Children hospital, JDRF Walk for a cure diabetes, rice depot, Relay for life and at Pine Forest elementary. In the fall she plans to Attend Ouachita Baptist University
