Maumelle Chamber of Commerce Business Brief Lunch

Maumelle, AR - On Thursday, November 19th the Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting our bi-monthly Business Brief Luncheon at Park on The River located at 11903 Crystal Hill Road in  Maumelle.  The meet and greet will begin at 11:30am and will give attendees the opportunity to network and make real business connections.  The catered lunch and formal program will begin at 12:00pm.  Cost is $18 and includes the guest speaker and a lunch Catered by RSVP Catering which consist of: Grilled Chicken Breast topped with sautéed mushrooms and Swiss cheese, mashed potatoes, vegetables , rolls  dessert  Coffee, Tea and Water.  

Our guest speaker for our November meeting is Kevin Cummings, a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas’ B.S. and M.A. in History programs, examines Maumelle’s past through a presentation entitled “When Arkansas Lost Her Lands: Ordnance,  Eminent Domain, and the New Town.”

This presentation answers many of the questions regarding the transition of the Maumelle lands through the various phases of being a frontier settlement, farming community, World War II ordnance facility, federally-backed New Town project, to that of today’s city of Maumelle. Mr. Cummings mixes a large collection of visual references with a unique, historiographical case study that only Maumelle provides.

Kevin Cummings grew up on farmlands just outside of Paragould, Arkansas. After graduating from Bay High School, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served over twenty-one years of active duty before retiring in 2008. Since then, he has served as the City of Maumelle’s Activities Coordinator and Maumelle Youth Council Advisor under the Parks and Recreation Department. During that time, he earned a B.S. and M.A. in History at the University of Central Arkansas.”
